A new year - a fresh start

news item

Whilst in times of great uncertainty, it is human nature to batten down the hatches and maintain the status quo with our finances says Jacqueline Lewis, a private client partner at Shakespeares Nottingham office.

"After a third year of recession and with predictions for a less than rosy 2012 ahead of us, we have seen a greater lethargy from people than in previous years, towards grasping the nettle and tackling their financial affairs.

"Reassuringly, it is possible to improve your financial lot and regain control but this will happen only when we are prepared to change."

Make a resolution

So this year rather than shelve, yet again, the conundrum of tax planning, asset protection, pre and post marital agreements, rewriting your will or discussing the use of trusts and lasting powers of attorney, take a positive look at all of these topics.

Jaqueline continues:

"Resolve not to see them as legal bogeymen to be avoided at all cost, but embrace the opportunity to preserve your wealth. At Shakespeares we provide support and advice alongside a bespoke and personal service to help our clients take stock of their assets, review insurance details and dust off pension policies.

"Advice taken sooner rather than later will ensure tax efficiency, whereas failure to leave enough time to properly tackle these matters will, put simply, cost you more."
